K9 Jake, a veteran police dog that helped keep Nassau County, New York, safe for a decade has died.
Nassau County Police Department posted on their Facebook yesterday to inform the death of K9 dog with the first sentence is: “We lost a part of our #NassauCountyPD family when K9 Jake passed away peacefully over the weekend.”
Jake joined the department in 2009 and was partner with Police Officer Jeff Shaikh.
Jake was a brave and loyal police dog. Shaikh and Jake together were responsible for arresting dangerous criminals, getting millions of dollars worth of illegal drugs off the streets as well as finding people with cognitive impairments and bringing them back home to their families.
In 2015, Shaikh and Jake tracked down a man wanted in the murder of a gas station attendant in Hicksville.
For the dedication that Jake had made for the safety of Nassau County, K9 Jake, you will be missed. Thank you for your service.
